Song of the Road

The roads have a song For all those who choose to listen. It hums the tune as it goes along, Twisting and winding; A vagabond Who cares not For the destination. In the lap of the hills It sits cradling, Learning a note from the wind And borrowing the lyrics of silence. From one hill to the next It meanders on Singing a song for our hearts As we ride on! Got up early. It was biting cold last night. However, we had some brandy which Vishal had given to keep us warm. Sunrise was exquisite and breathtaking.  Our route for the day was  Kopidara- manebhanjan- sukiyaki- semana- mirik- gayabari-dudhia- sukuna-Siliguri. We saw some antique British age Land Rover’s which were still in use.  Roads were good and we clipped a good pace. By now we had mastered the down ride and could manage to keep on the left. Our first stop was Mirik lake. Spent about half an hour at the man made lake and bought some local tea. Started from Mirik at around 1:30 am and stopped at a roadside eatery to have some veg momos, Wai Wai and black coffee as I was feeling a bit drowsy.  As we passed through sukna army camp traffic started becoming dense. We managed to reach our hotel around 5 pm.  Khukri ride completed ! Great feeling to have completed this wonderful adventure created by balaji and team. Every thing was well planned and executed....

The road condition was better and we managed to avoid the potholes.  Darjeeling was crowded and we were lucky to pass through without getting caught in traffic. The steep descent from Darjeeling to bijonbari bridge was one of the most challenging manoeuvring I have ever done. But the route was scenic. Nash stalled in one of the turns but was courageous to get up the bike and ride out ...

The tea stall owner suggested that we visit the rambam  Hydro power station which was 3 km away. We drove down to the place only to be turned back s as visitors were not slowed.  We started our climb to Dotre village. a very beautiful and scenic village   On the way we passed through a dense pine forest. Red pandas are found in these forests.  The temperature was near freezing. Hand knuckles were aching despite the ski gloves.
